Subsequent to receiving a much-needed LotteryWest grant towards hiring a professional archivist, in February JHGS-WA (Jewish Historical & Genealogical Society of Western Australia) president Michelle Urban hosted the archivist from the Australian Jewish Historical Society (AJHS), Sabrina Elias. Sabrina’s role was to check through JHGS-WA boxed archives and decide what she will ship back to Sydney for archiving and proper storage.’
When JHGS-WA reached out to the rest of the Perth’s Jewish Community Organisations, there was overwhelming interest to also box up their precious history and include it in the Project.
Writing in the JHGS-WA Newsletter, Michelle says:
“The response from PHC, Temple David, Carmel High School, Maurice Zeffert (MZH), JCCWA, Maccabi, to name a few, has been outstanding and very fruitful. Michelle, Jan [Walters] and Sabrina worked tirelessly for two weeks to collect the history of our “little” Perth community, which will now be available for perpetuity. Kol Hakavod for battling through years of work, endless conversations, bucket loads of dreams – the end is not near, yet, but so much will be preserved now, and it has been a job well done.”
